Country Heat Baked Beans

Can I just tell you all how excited I am for a healthy baked beans recipe?! When I saw this recipe in the Country Heat Program booklet I did a happy dance!  Since choosing to eat better 2 years ago I have missed baked beans at cookouts.  Now, sometimes I do sneak some in, I’m human and they complete a cookout for me!

Baked beans go so well with burgers, potlucks and get togethers!  I love to host family and friends so I am excited to have a recipe that won’t take me off track and still be a crowd pleaser.

I was afraid to try this out because I thought they wouldn’t taste good.  Honestly, I went in with the thought they would never make the blog…I was SO WRONG!

I won’t keep you waiting any longer…here’s the recipe!

smoke baked beans

Smoked Baked Beans : Country Heat

Makes 8 servings, 1/2 cup each


4 tsp olive oil

1 medium yellow onion chopped

1 15 oz can plain tomato sauce, no sugar added

1 T Worcestershire sauce

2 T liquid smoke (I used Colgin)

3/4 tsp dijon mustard

3 T pure maple syrup or molasses

2 cans (15 oz each) cannellini beans, rinsed and drained, preferably organic

Salt to taste (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Heat oil in overproof saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Add onion, cook for 4-6 minutes till onions are cooked.
  4. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, mustard, molasses, beans and salt.  Stir frequently for 5 minutes over medium-low heat.
  5. Place saucepan in oven, bake for 45-50 minutes or until sauce is thick.

Optional: Add 4 slices chopped cooked turkey bacon but this would add containers.  If you are following the Country Heat, 21 day fix or Beachbody container system this recipe counts as 1 yellow, 1/2 purple and 1/2 tsp.
